Hello all,

I’m new and happy to be part of the community.

My reason for joining initially is the following:
I need to know which Seiko bracelet would fit my vintage Diver (6159-7001). Perhaps one of the anniversary editions would fit?

Although it was originally sold with a strap for diving (to my Dad no less when he was a commercial diver in the UAE in the 70s), I really prefer metal bracelets over the strap options available. Any serial or part numbers, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I also own a 6159-7000 and I have thought about this question extensively, as well. Long story short, the endlinks don't work. I also own a vintage 62MAS which has the same problem -- it all boils down to the endlinks not being a perfect fit. I have come to the conclusion that there are no metal bracelet options that work for vintage Seiko divers as well as a rubber strap.

I currently use an SBDX012 strap for my 6159. The color scheme and comfort level are perfect. See attachment.

Thank you for the reply! I really appreciate the insight. I will look into the SBDX012 today. I’d rather have a rubber OEM strap that fits properly, rather than a bracelet that doesn’t.

thanks again!

Any metal bracelet I've paired with my vintage Seiko divers have NEVER felt 100% correct. I've come to the conclusion that they belong on rubber. It's the only correct choice.

I continued my search, and the SBDX012 I found with that great color scheme is listed as a 20mm lug width. But it appears that all of the 6159-7001s have a 19mm width.
Any insight on which I should buy?

I wear my SBDX012 strap on my 6159. It’s a great fit. The strap will squeeze into a 19mm width.

I just ordered a SBDX012 strap, it should be here from Japan in a couple of weeks. I’ll make sure to post some pictures. Thanks for the help!

I think you're going to love the strap. It's the perfect band for the 6159. Trust me, I've tried them all from 731XGL repros to metal bracelets.

You thought right! It’s perfect! I was able to find one from Japan. Along the way, I splurged on an original ZLM01 strap from the Philippines, pictured to the left of my 6159-7001 with the SBDX012 strap.

Thank you so much for the recommendation. I couldn’t be happier. 🙏🙏

You’ll actually want the 731XGL tire tread strap if you’re going for historical accuracy. The waffle is more geared for the 62mas and 6105. Either way, the SBDX012 strap is superior to either of the above options.

I was relying on the info I found on plus9time.com:
“In addition to the 6215-7000/1 the ZLM01 was also supplied for a short period of time on the 6159-7000/1 from it’s introduction in June 1968 until the beginning of 1969”

Is that inaccurate?

All of the 6159’s I’ve seen were fitted with the 731XGL as the factory option.

Of course the waffle and chocolate bar are indeed period-correct. However, most of the iconic historical photos seem to most closely associate the tire tread strap with the 6159.

With the little I know, I’m inclined to agree with you. My dad is the original purchaser, and he insists it wasn’t a waffle cone on it when he bought it. The article on plus9time makes it seem like the 6159s were fitted with ZLM01s for just the beginning of their run. Either way, I’m happy to add both of these straps to my collection :)
Thanks again for your help and input!

I own all the original straps for my various vintage Seikos: 62MAS, 6105, 6159. They’re good to have around, but I would never risk damaging them or having my watch lost by the strap abruptly cracking in half, as they are prone to do. I only wear my vintage Seiko’s on repros or modern straps.

Hi MattH, how are you enjoying your SBDX012 strap? Any updates after a couple of months?
